COA-first mood: blocked audit sheets beside a GenuinePurity™ Liposomal NMN bottle—clean, claim-free.
NMN for women is still an emerging topic. One 10-week trial in 25 postmenopausal women with prediabetes found better muscle insulin sensitivity at 250 mg/day, but no trial shows NMN relieves menopause symptoms. GenuinePurity Liposomal NMN, which lists 250 mg per capsule, is one option to discuss with your clinician.

NMN for Women: The Short Answer
Here is the honest summary of NMN for women. Human data exist, but they are small and short. Most trials enrolled older adults, and many enrolled men.
The clearest women-only result comes from postmenopausal women with prediabetes. In that trial NMN improved a measure of muscle insulin sensitivity. That is an interesting lab finding, not proof of a visible benefit.
No trial we reviewed shows that NMN for women eases hot flashes, mood changes or other menopause symptoms. So treat NMN as an experimental wellness supplement, and not as a hormone treatment.
If you are curious anyway, this guide explains what the evidence says, what the dose question looks like, and who should talk to a clinician first. For the basics, start with our NMN guide.
What NMN Is and Why Women Ask About It
NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) is a building block the body uses to make NAD+, a coenzyme involved in energy metabolism. Our explainer on what NAD+ is covers the biology in plain language.
NAD+ levels are reported to fall with age, which is why NMN is marketed for healthy aging (NAD decline with age). Women often ask about NMN for women in midlife, when sleep, energy and weight can change.
Examine summarizes the human picture this way: trials mainly show that NMN raises blood NAD+, while anti-aging benefits in humans are still uncertain and need larger trials (Examine).
A 2023 review in Advances in Nutrition found that blood NAD+ rose in trials, while muscle NAD+ did not rise in the studies that measured it. The authors say clear anti-aging evidence in humans is scarce (Song et al., 2023).
What Human Trials Show About NMN for Women
The women-only trial: prediabetic postmenopausal women
In a 10-week, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, NMN supplementation was tested in overweight or obese postmenopausal women with prediabetes. Insulin-stimulated glucose disposal and muscle insulin signaling increased after NMN but not after placebo (Yoshino et al., PMID 33888596).
Secondary reviews describe it as 25 women taking 250 mg/day, with no adverse effects reported (Nadeeshani et al., 2021).
Important limits: it was a small group, it focused on women with a specific metabolic profile, and it measured a lab outcome. It does not tell us what NMN for women without prediabetes does.
A mixed-sex safety trial in healthy adults
In a randomized trial of 31 healthy adults aged 20 to 65, 1,250 mg/day of NMN for 4 weeks caused no changes beyond normal variation in blood counts, body composition or vital signs. The NMN group included 9 women. Five minor adverse events were judged unrelated to the product (Fukamizu et al., 2022).
The authors note the study was small and short, and that several authors work for the company that supplied the NMN.
Pooled reviews
A 2024 systematic review covered 10 placebo-controlled trials with 437 participants, 51.5% of them female, mean age 58, doses of 150 to 1,200 mg/day and a mean follow-up of 9.6 weeks. The authors reported no serious adverse effects and described the physical-performance improvements as non-significant (Wen et al., 2024).
What about fertility and egg quality?
Women often ask about NMN for women who want to conceive. The 2021 review mentions a mouse study in which NAD+ in the egg cells of aged female mice rose by nearly 50%. That is an animal finding.
We found no human trial showing that NMN for women improves fertility, and the safety of NMN in pregnancy is unknown. Anyone trying to conceive should speak with a clinician before using it.
| Source | Who was studied | What it reports | Caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yoshino 2021 (RCT) | Postmenopausal women with prediabetes, 10 weeks | Better muscle insulin sensitivity and signaling vs placebo | Small, specific population, lab outcome |
| Fukamizu 2022 (RCT) | 31 healthy adults, 9 women in NMN group, 4 weeks | No changes beyond physiological variation at 1,250 mg/day | Short; industry-linked authors |
| Wen 2024 (systematic review) | 10 RCTs, 437 people, 51.5% female | No serious adverse effects; performance gains non-significant | Heterogeneous, short follow-up |
| Song 2023 (review) | 10 published trials | Blood NAD+ rises; anti-aging evidence scarce | Mostly older participants |
Overall, NMN for women has promising early signals and plenty of open questions. Our NMN clinical evidence ranking and NMN and insulin sensitivity posts go deeper on the metabolic data.
NMN for Women and Menopause: What We Can and Cannot Say
Mayo Clinic lists hot flashes, night sweats, sleep problems, mood changes and brain fog among common menopause symptoms, with an average U.S. age of about 51 (Mayo Clinic). Cleveland Clinic adds that hormone therapy and non-hormonal options exist and should be discussed with a provider (Cleveland Clinic).
Does NMN for women help with those symptoms? We found no trial that tested that question. The 2023 review reported no significant change in sleep quality in trials that measured it.
So we do not claim NMN for women treats menopause. If symptoms disrupt your life, a clinician can offer options with real evidence. Supplements, if used at all, are a side topic. Read our NMN and magnesium for sleep guide only as background.
Also see a provider promptly for bleeding after menopause or very heavy periods. Those are not supplement problems.
Safety, Dose and Who Should Skip NMN for Women
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding and trying to conceive: NIH ODS and NCCIH both note that many supplements have not been tested in pregnant or nursing women (NIH ODS, NCCIH). We found no human safety data for NMN in these groups, so skip it unless a clinician advises otherwise.
- Long-term use: Examine states that long-term safety of chronic or higher doses has not been tested, and that high-dose NMN has been linked to acute liver toxicity.
- Medicines and conditions: supplements can interact with medicines and may matter before surgery (NIH ODS). Tell your clinician and pharmacist.
- No established limit: the 2023 review notes there is no established RDA or upper limit for NMN.
Dose is the other question. The trials covered a wide range, from 100 to 2,000 mg/day, with 250 mg/day the most common for 4 to 12 weeks (Song et al., 2023). The women-only trial used 250 mg/day.
The 2021 review adds that commercial products typically contain 50 to 150 mg per capsule and that safety at these doses is not fully established (Nadeeshani et al.). More is not automatically better. Read our daily NMN dose guide and NMN side effects post before deciding.
The FDA does not approve supplements for safety and effectiveness before they are sold, and it advises talking with a health professional first (FDA).
Where GenuinePurity NMN Fits
If you and your clinician decide NMN is reasonable, product quality matters. GenuinePurity Liposomal NMN is a capsule with a stated dose of 250 mg of NMN, the same number used in the women-only trial. That is a dose match on paper only. Formulations differ, so do not assume equivalent results.
For a closer look at the brand, see our GenuinePurity NMN review and the liposomal vs regular NMN comparison.
What the manufacturer states (official page, read 2026-10-12):
- Each capsule contains “96% Pure” NMN, 250 mg; the suggested use is 1 capsule daily, preferably with meals.
- The page states the product is third-party lab tested and links certificates of analysis, and that it is made in the USA in cGMP-certified facilities.
- A money-back guarantee of 97 days is offered (one passage on the page says 90 days, so confirm the current terms).
- The page makes no claims specific to women, and we could not verify its broader anti-aging claims.
Terms and prices change; check the official GenuinePurity page for current details.
| Who may want to discuss NMN with a clinician | Who should skip it or ask first |

| Healthy adult women curious about NAD+ support who understand the evidence is early | Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive; anyone with liver disease; anyone on prescription medicines or facing surgery |
How to Choose an NMN Supplement
Choosing NMN for women follows the same quality rules as for anyone. Use this checklist.
- Look for a stated dose per capsule. Compare it with the 250 mg/day used in the women-only trial.
- Ask for the certificate of analysis. A real COA names the lot, purity and testing lab. See our NMN purity and COA checklist.
- Beware of big promises. NCCIH warns that words like “standardized,” “verified” or “certified” do not guarantee quality.
- Check the form. Capsule, powder or liposomal forms differ in price and convenience, not in proven outcomes.
- Review legal status. Rules for NMN have changed over time. Our NMN legality guide explains the background.
- Start with your clinician. Bring the label and any COA to your appointment.

Bottom line on NMN for women: the early human data are reassuring on short-term tolerability and intriguing for one metabolic marker. They do not support menopause, fertility or anti-aging promises. Use NMN for women only after a conversation with your clinician.
